Cirque Du Soleil performs
The end of summer? Already, really? Worry not. While Labor Day weekend is speedily approaching there is a fabulous array of activities and specials happening in the city that are seriously worth checking out. Music festivals, local markets, impressive art installations, and once-a-year outdoor events are set to make this Labor Day weekend a memorable one.

1238 Maryland Avenue SW / Website
Check out the impressive and immersive art experience “Ase: Afro Frequencies” at ARTECHOUSE this Labor Day weekend. The culturally-focused exhibit uses video, music, lights, and art by featured artist Vince Fraser and poetry by Ursula Rucker to give guests an exploratory look at the Black experience. Experience Vegas-style acrobatics and worldclass showmanship with Cirque Du Soleil’s latest show KURIOS - Cabinet of Curiosities. The show promises poetry, art, humor, steampunk style, and an immersive, transportive affair. Tickets can be purchased here.

Date: Wednesday, Aug. 31 - Sunday, Sept. 4
Enjoy live jazz music performances at the 18th annual DC Jazzfest. This free multi-day event takes place at stages across the city, including the Wharf. The event is free but there are options for upgrades.

Date: Monday, Sept. 5
Cruise up to the annual Labor Day car show in Alexandria to browse through hundreds of cars including antiques, classics, foreign, muscle cars, custom builds, motorcycles, trucks, and more. The show is free to attend, but it’s highly encouraged to make a donation as all proceeds go to local charitable organizations Life with Cancer and the Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program.

Date: Monday, Sept. 5, 8 a.m.- 10 a.m.
Jog through gorgeous Mount Vernon District Park for either a 5K or 10K race in celebration of the holiday. Walkers are welcome, as well, and all registrants who register prior to Wednesday, Aug. 31, will be guaranteed a race T-shirt. Registration can be done here.

The Maryland Renaissance Festival kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 27, and is open every weekend, including the extended Labor Day weekend, until the end of October. Gather your family or friends, don some themed costumes, and enjoy the carefree, music-filled environment. Tickets can be purchased here.

Date: Friday, Sept. 2 - Sunday, Sept. 4
Explore a variety of art exhibitions, performances, tastings, and themed parties at this glitzy festival at Gaylord National Harbor. The festival will have everything from 360 degree photo booths, to celebrity DJs, to a fabulous fireworks display at its conclusion. Tickets can be purchased here.

Date: Sunday, Sept. 4 - 8 p.m.
Take part in a patriotic DC tradition: the National Symphony Orchestra will be performing on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in a free concert open to the public. The program will feature music by Aaron Copland, John Williams, and the NSO’s own Composer-in-Residence Carlos Simon, among others. The performance does not require tickets and guests are seated on a first-come, first served basis.
Georgetown Park / Website
Shop small at this wonderful weekend pop-up market in Georgetown Park. Shop local businesses for handmade accessories, chic locally-made clothes, personalized art work, and so much more. There’s an everchanging lineup of vendors at this hit weekly market, so follow their socials to stay in the know. The market is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
