If you find yourself in front of Goldfinch in Old Town Alexandria, stop in to discover a whimsical world aflutter with fanciful goods that delight the senses. It’s a motto of co-founders Jeff Akseizer (he started his namesake interiors, architecture and branding group in 2006) and Jamie Brown (who’s been involved with the firm since its inception). “You’re greeted by the sweet aroma of a burning candle, the soulful sounds of jazz and, often... Lulu, the French bulldog,” says Akseizer, whose group is embarking on projects like a 100-key golf resort on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The wares are handpicked from a variety of local artisans, designer trade shows and private collectors in Europe. The ANNA by RabLabs Amare Italian tea set is steeped for fall entertaining. It has a lustrous metal base in a minimal, midcentury silhouette, all capped with a translucent alabaster lid from the last existing quarry of its kind in Tuscany. And a sconce wall “let[s] you preview how these... [products] might look in your home, providing context to an item that can be hard to envision in practicality,” says Brown. You can now also go online for custom gift boxes and a corporate gifting program—but we prefer the IRL tongue-in-cheek milieu.
