Backyard tableaus define summer. And now a new player on the block in DC—in this case, Tysons Corner Center—has arrived in time to populate our decks and patios for the return of safe summer gatherings. Minneapolis-based Yardbird, which is renowned for its socially conscious and environmentally friendly outdoor furniture, used to only dabble in a directto- consumer model. But it has recently added several showrooms nationwide, including its new space in Vienna. “We’re on a mission to make outdoor living better for all,” says Jay Dillon, who co-founded Yardbird with his father, Bob Dillon, a few years ago. “We chose to invest in the DC area for our first East Coast showroom because the community shares our passion for high design, sustainability and the outdoors.”

All manufacturing of the brand’s products is done in the Twin Cities, and Yardbird’s furniture is 100% recyclable. It’s crafted with repurposed ocean plastic sourced from beaches, waterways and ocean-bound susceptible locations. In the past few years, the company has incorporated more than 385,000 pounds of this material into its furniture and packaging. The fatherson team also takes its carbon footprint seriously. The company offsets 100% of its footprint with carbonfund.org, making mindful decisions in areas like employee commuting, product shipping and smart-energy strategies in its warehouse, office and showrooms. One constant remains among the most important: The furniture looks as great as its quest to save the planet. Tysons Corner Center, 1929 Old Gallows Road, Vienna, 703.259.8063, yardbird.com
