In April, music-rights organization BMI shared that “Every Breath You Take” had become its most performed song, with nearly 15 million radio plays.
Remember, in 2014, when Sting was named one of The Kennedy Center honorees? What about in 2017, when he debuted at Wolf Trap? Or that time he played in front of the National Portrait Gallery during the Capitals’ playoffs last year? Well, the British rocker is back at it and will take the stage for the second time at Wolf Trap’s alfresco Filene Center Aug. 26 to 28. “It’s striking to see such an iconic performer in what is considered to be an intimate... environment for him,” says Sara Beesley, VP of programming and production at the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. (The center seats 7,000.) His visit follows the release of his latest album, My Songs, and will surely include a few of these updated recordings. They stay true to the originals, but have been reimagined to give them new life and resonance. They will be delivered alongside an electric-rock ensemble. “Every Breath You Take,” “Roxanne” and more hits from his career—from forming The Police in 1977 to singing with Shaggy—are among the tunes.
