Washingtonians are thrilled about The Wharf's slate of new residential and retail lures, but gourmands have something to be excited about too. The dining options along the waterfront—with chefs like Fabio Trabocchi, Jamie Leeds, Cathal Armstrong and Roberto Santibanez—will give other neighborhoods in the city a run for their culinary money.

Del Mar
The two-level architectural gem from restaurateurs Fabio and Maria Trabocchi is a salute to the seaside town of Mallorca. Expect seafood brilliance—including charcoal-grilled fish, tapas and paella—from the James Beard Award-winning chef. 791 Wharf St. SW

Hank’s Oyster Bar
Is there anything Jamie Leeds can’t do in the kitchen? The veteran chef created what she calls urban beach food, which translates to dishes like lobster rolls, grilled crab cakes and exceptional oysters, of course. 1100 Maine Ave. SW

An Irish-born chef taking on the tastes of Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Thailand and South Korea? If anyone thinks the prospect of success for this venture seems tenuous at best, he or she hasn’t met James Beard Award nominee chef Cathal Armstrong, creator of Restaurant Eve. Look for the intimacy of an Asian night market, as Armstrong serves up street-food delicacies. 751 Water St. SW

Mi Vida
Acclaimed chef Roberto Santibanez brings his culinary flair to the Southwest waterfront with a restaurant inspired by Mexican street food and traditional dishes. But don’t expect pedestrian dining: Santibanez will wow patrons. 98 District Square SW

Top Chef star Jennifer Carroll moves from Mosaic District to the waterfront to helm the Mike Isabella-inspired concept that focuses on Mediterranean fare. Our favorites include yellowfin tuna tartare, whole dorade and coconut-curry mussels. 100 District Square SW
