Celeb master esthetician Sarah Akram helps you put your freshest face forward.
Sarah Akram’s apprentices train with her for six months prior to working with clients; she also extensively researches the latest all-natural, high-tech treatments.
Step through the pink doors of Sarah Akram Skincare in Old Town Alexandria, and you’ll enter her glam world of looking and feeling good. The two-story spot houses all-natural product exclusives (Biologique Recherche and Environ Skincare) and offers only noninvasive techniques. “I want to push forward the message that there are other options,” says Akram, who splits her time between DC and NYC. “It’s about being healthy.” Akram is a preventative-maintenance guru—she doesn’t drink alcohol, exercises four times a week and follows a three-step routine (a pre-cleansing oil, clay mask and milk-based cleanser). At her salon, clients can experience services such as the premier Oxylight facial. (Madonna is a fan of the facial.) The high-tech LED light-therapy machine infuses negative ions into the skin to revitalize it and increase collagen production. She uses it in treatments like the SA Luxury. (It features three modalities and personalization; she’ll even do a “product-free” facial for sensitive skin.) But first: an anti-aging Butterfly massage to heat up your skin so it responds better. “Hands are the best tool,” she notes. Another option: The Ultrasonic Deep treatment is a newer addition, to lift and hydrate for an instant glow—perfect for Mother’s Day. But everything here is, and will ensure you walk out those doors with a natural blush of your own. Treatments with Akram from $500, 125 S. Fairfax St., sarahakram.com
