A Pink Promise

| October 28, 2013 | Parties

THE PARTY It’s a cause that always draws a crowd—and generous fundraising efforts. Susan G. Komen for the Cure continued the fight against breast cancer with a successful fundraiser—Honoring the Promise 2013—featuring some of the movement’s most well-known advocates, including actress Fran Drescher, Olympic figure skater Dorothy Hamill and local news anchor Barbara Harrison. THE PEOPLE Washington’s lawmakers and bold-faced names turned out in force for the evening—which raised $1.5 million for breast cancer education, programs, treatment and research—including Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Aaron Schock. The gala’s founding chairman, David Rubenstein, was also on hand and challenged the crowd to raise half a million more by October’s end, with a promise to match dollar for dollar from his own pocket. BEST IN SHOW Guests sipped the soiree’s signature cocktail, The Promise Keeper, and danced the night away to live performances from Kool & the Gang, who closed out the night by inviting all of the evening’s presenters and awardees onstage for a rousing rendition of their hit “Celebrate.” Photography by Tony Powell and Margot Schulman
