Best-kept secrets abound in DC, as countless Instagram reels attest. But one of the finest open secrets continues to be the intimate concerts at the Phillips Collection. They’re like bouquets of sound in an unmatched setting: the Music Room in Duncan Phillips’ mansion-turned-art-gallery on Embassy Row. Missing these shows provokes serious cultural FOMO.
This season kicks off with Trio con Brio Copenhagen (Oct. 13). The program also boasts a newly appointed director of music, renowned pianist Jenny Lin, who will foster connections between global artists and diverse audiences. Guest witness various musical styles, enjoy world premieres and see unique artistic collaborations.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Jenny Lin as the next director of this long-standing and cherished music program at the Phillips,” says Jonathan Binstock, the museum’s CEO and Vradenburg director. “A brilliant pianist, programmer and educator, her musicianship and global perspective will strengthen Phillips Music’s appeal as a destination for artists and audiences.”
Lin served most recently as the executive director of the Manchester Music Festival, where she led its milestone 50th anniversary season. A distinguished Steinway artist, she has performed with prestigious orchestras and symphonies at the world’s top venues. Her discography boasts over 50 recordings, ranging from classical piano masterpieces to contemporary works and Broadway favorites.
“I can’t wait to welcome fellow artists and guests, returning and new, to the Music Room for captivating performances. [Each] explores the museum’s renowned permanent collection and special exhibitions through musical response,” says Lin.
Jenny Lin is the new director of music at the Phillips Collection.
