One Makeover

When it comes to lipstick and blush and liner (oh, my!), what is your mantra? Are you a naturalist or a firm believer in all things glam, from day to night? Georgetown beauty buffs now can sit pretty (and primp and prep) at Own Your Wonder, no matter their style. Here, the face-off.

The full-service makeup bar offers a pro cosmetic experience that rivals what you’d expect at your fave beauty counter—and, for that matter, hair salon and nail studio. “It’s like a Drybar for makeup,” says Harvard-educated lawyer and former Olympic swimmer Kristina Han, who founded the concept with Creative Director Robin Izsak to fill a void—and start something she wanted herself. “I created a space to revolutionize the experience of putting makeup on with fabulous customer service in a welcoming environment.” It’s so popular that there’s a second location in the works too.

The diverse staff offers customized looks for each client, no matter their skin color or gender. A top talent: Joan Rodriguez, who started her career 21 years ago at Von Lee School of Makeup and has gained invaluable experience at spots such as Robert Andrews Salon & Spa. The team works with a variety of luxe labels, such as Becca and GlamGlow, to ensure a nonbiased application specific to each person’s needs. “It’s not really about makeup,” notes Izsak. “It’s about providing a space for transformation, yet still feeling like yourself—it’s about totally owning the skin you’re in.”

There are many options for you to pretty up. Need a pre-dinner refresher? Stop in for the Mini Wonder ($10). Getting gala ready? Try the Total Wonder ($70), for everything from primer to the last swipe of lipstick. There are memberships too, like Han’s favorite, The Bronze (from $120). It has unlimited Mini Wonders and four 30-minute treatments monthly. But our pick is The Gold (from $300 per month), for its unlimited in-store services. 1659 Wisconsin Ave. NW, 202.298.8000
