Are you looking for a more serene vibe than DC’s hustle? Venture across the Potomac to Virginia and the historic streets of Old Town Alexandria. Here are some of our favorite diversions.
WHERE TO EAT
The Majestic
We love the pedigree of this place (since 1932), but even more, we love the crab cake sandwiches, green curry mussels, five-piece St. Louis ribs and pan-seared halibut. The friendly team extends a wonderful vibe, and the kitchen sources from all over the Mid-Atlantic.
Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge
Located in the Torpedo Factory along the Potomac River, patrons gravitate toward the Chesapeake Bay chowder, James River oysters, seared shrimp tacos, herb-crusted baked rockfish and crab cakes. Don’t miss sides like Old Bay fries and stone-ground cheddar grits.
Vermilion
Farm-to-table is the mantra in most restaurants, but this New American spot on King Street truly walks the walk. Look for a menu divided into “snacks” (housemade milk bread), “small” (prawns a la plancha) and “savor” (butter-roasted chicken).
Brabo Brasserie
Discover the vitality of a French brasserie and the refinement of Old Town Alexandria’s historical architecture at Brabo Brasserie. Executive chef Sebastien Rondier presents a comprehensive menu of iconic brasserie-inspired dishes augmented with precise French culinary technique and talent representative of his Michelin-starred pedigree.
