NBA Coach Joseph Blair mentors players and the world about nutritional slam dunks.
Joseph Blair (@mrjosephblair) loves preaching about wellness via a vegan diet. He’s the co-chair of DC Veg Restaurant Week (May 6-12, @dcvegweek), a celebration of plant-based cuisine. The Wizards’ assistant coach, former NBA player and Harlem Globetrotter, known as “The Vegan Coach” during speaking engagements, promotes how a vegan diet builds strength and longevity. We caught up with him between games.
What’s your go-to vegan dinner at home? Vegan chickpea ceviche! It’s my favorite.
Favorite vegan restaurant on the road? I just tried Saffron The Eatery (saffrontheeatery.com) in Vegas and can’t wait to go back!
Who do you most admire in sports? Lebron James [for] his ability to avoid any true drama—along with his ability to grow as a philanthropist, waymaker and maintain his athletic dominance.
Best advice about sports you’ve received? My high school coach told me that when I start a game, I should be able to walk up to the guy guarding me and say, ‘I’m the guy. I’m the guy who was shooting baskets while you were watching TV. I’m the guy who was lifting weights while you were out partying. I’m the guy willing to do all the things you weren’t!’”
