Olympic Rower and Nautical Style Icon Giuseppe Lanzone Bows a New Resto in La Cochesa

Born and raised near the ocean in a small town near Lima, Peru, Giuseppe Lanzone came to the DC area at age 14 with his mother and brother, Mario. His home country would later serve as a culinary foundation for his future. First, though, he became the best rower in America in 2010 and served on the U.S. Men’s National Team; he participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics (he also served as a brand ambassador for Ralph Lauren). The nautical world now influences his casual yet sophisticated style of white silk shirts, scarves and Ray-Bans. “Mario and I always wanted to start something together,” Lanzone says. “He pursued a career captaining private yachts while I was off chasing my rowing dreams, so when we both returned to DC, it was the perfect time to try.” Peruvian Brothers was born, which recreates Lima’s iconic tastes, especially the brothers’ favorite sandwich, the pan con chicharrón. Bonus: The eatery has a new location in La Cochesa near Union Market.

My earliest style memory is no shoes, no shirt—just board shorts.

In three words, I would describe my style as classic, simple, comfortable.

If there were 26 hours in a day, I would do more scuba diving.
