Memorial Day weekend in Washington DC offers various activities, places and events in the area to celebrate. Here are some of the happenings to participate in this long holiday weekend.

Venture to Falls Church for a Memorial Day packed with family-friendly events on Monday, May 29. The festival takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. Then, at 2 p.m. the parade will begin with live music, floats and kid-friendly entertainment. Throughout the day there will be food, drink and shopping at the festival.

Head to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to honor lost soldiers and experience the historic landmark. Located between 21st St. and 27th St. on the National Mall.

The National Memorial Day Parade, organized by the American Veterans Center, is a must-see. The parade will be held between 7th and 17th Streets on Monday, May 29 at 2 p.m. and also live streamed online. There will be floats, bands, active military units, youth groups and many esteemed military veterans of all generations.

Run for a good cause at the Spring Georgetown Memorial 5K & Half. Run or walk a 13.1 mile or 5K on May 28 for the Running in the USA event.

Join the Rotary Club of Vienna for three fun-filled days of amusement park rides, games, shows, food and shopping. All proceeds from the festival are donated to a variety of local organizations. Check out the website for a full lineup of events and to purchase ride tickets.

Honor women in the military and those who have fallen at the annual Women’s Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 29. An exciting lineup of speakers representing all six military branches features military women both currently serving and retired. Rose petals will be disbursed around the memorial as a tribute to departed military members. The event is open to all!
