Lauded Swedish interior architect and product designer Martin Brudnizki deftly redefined The Dupont Circle hotel’s flagship restaurant (and adjoining Doyle bar) as a must for dining and drinking in high style. Yes, The Pembroke and Doyle are welcoming and vibrant, with a punchy, glam design on the one hand and a midmod vibe on the other—and an American and European feel throughout. Taken together, it’s as if you’re lounging amid a luxury Euro ice cream parlor out of the 1960s. “The elegant design evokes both the nostalgic style of Parisian grand cafes and the refined synergy of modern decor,” says hotel GM Joel Freyberg. Green planters with palms give the space an organic, natural feel, while the bright, luxurious salmon-colored leather banquettes complement the verdant hues and tantalize the senses, preparing you for globally driven cuisine—like the new Greek salad with Bulgarian feta—from executive chef Marlon Rambaran. (Ask for Table No. 7 to get a full panorama of the room; it’s perfect for people-watching the DC denizens and entertaining privately.) All of the furnishings are custom and handmade in Ireland by Orior Furniture. MBDS constructed the look-at-me chandeliers with brass and frosted glass. Marble abounds too. The restaurant’s stone is called Colonial Silver, sourced from Vermont. And the bar and lounge is outfitted with Confusion Dark, from Stone Source. The floor-to-ceiling windows are a final touch, allowing light to flow in—and you to see and be seen. 1500 New Hampshire Ave. NW, 202.448.4302, doylecollection.com
