Celebrated actress Lupita Nyong’o visited DC on Saturday, Oct. 30 for a special screening of her new movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, hosted by the Smithsonian.
The Kenyan-Mexican, Oscar Award-winning actress is a Lancome ambassador, so naturally, she looked stunning on the red carpet.
We connected with Nyong’o’s celebrity makeup artist, Nick Barose, to get the rundown on what inspired the look and how he achieved it.

“Inspired by the masculine, pin-stripe white suit Lupita wore, I wanted the makeup to feel ultra-feminine and glamorous. I highlighted the eyes with metallic silver, to complement the diamond jewelry, and painted the lips with a shimmering berry shade for the ultimate, glamorous touch,” says Barose.
Nyong’o wore a glamorous white tailored suit complete with diamond-studded pinstripes and simple, but impactful, diamond accessories. She carried a small, sparkly bag that matched the gems on her suit. Her hair was kept simple, leaving room for the makeup and outfit to really shine.
“My color choice is usually influenced by the clothes and accessories worn – it dictates the whole look’s mood. So in this case, the cool but elegant styling inspired me to create an extra glamorous and futuristic look with the silver eyes and berry lips,” says Barose.
We got an inside look into the exact products Barose used to glam up Nyong’o for the special day. Here’s what Barose used to create the look:
Start by preparing your skin with Lancôme Advanced Génifique Face Serum to give a boost of hydration and glow. Then, massage Lancôme Advanced Génifique Eye Light Pearl under your eyes to brighten and smooth the skin. Apply a pea-sized amount of Lancôme Prep + Matte Primer along the T zone.
Next, we move into applying the foundation for the look. Blend Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation in 560 all over the face with a damp sponge to create a flawless skin canvas and extra smooth glow. Apply Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer in 560 to brighten under the eyes. Blot Lancôme Dual Finish Powder Foundation in 560 all over the face, focusing on the T zone, to perfect and blur the skin. Then, blend Lancôme Blush Subtil in Keep Calm & Blush onto the apples of the cheeks for a flush of berry color.
For the eyes, start by prepping with Lancôme Prime It Boost It Eyeshadow Primer to help the eyeshadows stay crease-proof and its colors pop more. Define and shape your brows with Lancôme Brow Shaping Powdery Pencil in 10. Then, apply the metallic silver shades from Lancôme Hypnôse 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in Smokey Chic all over the eyelids for a wash of metallic color. Using the deeper shades in the palette, smoke out the top lash line for extra definition.
To really define your eyes, then smudge Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner in Café Noir on the top and bottom lash lines for a smoky effect. Line the upper lash line with Lancôme Idôle Liner and add a wing for an extra regal effect. Finish off your eyes by applying two coats of Lancôme Lash Idôle Mascara for an instant lash lift, lengthening and fanned out volume.
Finish off your look with a fabulous pair of lips. Line the lips with Lancôme Le Lip Liner in Raisinberry, Nick’s go-to lip liner shade for Nyong’o, to shape and add definition. Then, apply Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick in Nuit Parisienne to top off the lips with the perfect terracotta color that’s both bright and earthy.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premieres in theaters on Friday, Nov. 11.
