One DC Designer Share Four New Ways to Refresh Your Home

Designer Julie Geyer breaks down four new looks for rooms that change a home’s vibe.

We asked DC-area designer Julie Geyer, founder and principal designer at Julie Geyer Studio (juliegeyerstudio.com, @juliegstudio), to share her latest and boldest client work for room refreshes. No surprises here—they’re gorgeous.

WINE ROOM
Geyer transformed an unused dining room into a moody wine lounge. “Four chairs by Caracole (caracole.com) surround a marble table by Four Hands (fourhands.com) on a lush wool rug by Ashley Stark Home (ashleystarkhome.com),” she says, noting that her team added grasscloth wallpaper by Schumacher (schumacher.com), a chandelier by Gabby (gabby.com) and wine racks by Vintage View (vintageview.com).

FAMILY ROOM
“Our clients, a family of five, needed as much seating as we could fit for entertaining friends and teens,” says Geyer. The designer removed built-in bookcases and added millwork, white oak sideboards by Revelation (@revelationbyuttermost) and sconces by Visual Comfort. The two sofas by Lexington Furniture (lexingtonfurniture.com) provide clean lines and performance fabrics. “To reflect the family’s vibrancy, we added blue velvet swivel chairs by Precedent (precedent-furniture.com), a large iron coffee table by Four Hands (fourhands.com) and a rug from Coe & Son (coecarpetandrug.com).

FOYER
“This historic home was renovated about 10 years ago and needed a refresh to bring it back to life,” says Geyer. “We added millwork panels to the foyer and added mural wallpaper by Emma Hayes (emmahayes.co.nz) to three main panels. To brighten the hallway, we painted it in Benjamin Moore’s (benjaminmoore.com) Decorator’s White, replaced the recessed lighting for surface mounts by Visual Comfort (visualcomfort.com), and added an organically shaped custom bench and stool by Mr. Brown London (mrbrownhome.com).

LIVING ROOM
The client wanted a space to relax—away from the fray of the busy family. The living room is now a she-space for mom to watch TV and for her three daughters to hang out,” says Geyer. “We painted in Benjamin Moore Simply White to brighten the room, and we added a slip-covered sofa and a coffee table from Rowe (rowefurniture.com).” The team layered the room with black chairs from Villa & House (vandh.com), a sideboard by Worlds Away (worldsaway.com), a chandelier by Regina Andrew Detroit (reginaandrew.com), a side table from Mr. Brown London and art from Josh Young Design House (joshyoungdesignhouse.com). The kicker: Geyer covered the ceiling with Schumacher’s wallpaper.
