A chill is starting to fill the air, which means it’s the perfect time to explore one of the area’s many farms brimming with the fruits—and pumpkins—of the season. Here are our favorites in both Maryland and Virginia.
Queen Anne Farm
Spend a full day at Queen Anne Farm this month, and visit the radiant spot midway between DC and Annapolis. For over 30 years, the farm has been growing vegetables like okra, squash, eggplant, onions and more. Families can experience traditional pumpkin patches or a ride on the hay wagon. The farm also features the Pumpkin House, where children can pose in front of our giant critters and straw farm animals. 18102 Central Ave., Mitchellville, 301.249.2427, queenannefarm.com
Greenstreet Gardens
This fall, take a field trip through Greenstreet Gardens for a two-and-a-half-hour farm tour, including a five-acre corn maze; take a trip around the farm on a hayride and explore our pumpkin patch. Visitors also can learn about pollinators, corn and the parts of a plant. 391 W. Bay Front Road, Lothian, 410.867.9500, greenstreetgardens.com
Clark’s Elioak Farm
From raising crops to caring for animals, seven generations of farmers at Clark’s Elioak Farms have created a strong experience for kids and families. Visit the farm with family and pick “kid-size” pumpkins to take home or the pumpkin patch through November 5. 10500 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, 410.730.4049, clarklandfarm.com
Cox Farms
With free admission to the Festival Market, be sure to check out this incredible farm. The farm continues to develop new seasonal events, serving more than 45 years in the heart of the community. Cox Farms has pumpkins in all shapes and sizes, fresh local apples and sweet local cider. Also, for older kids, don’t miss weekend fun and fright nights. 15621 Braddock Road, Centreville, 703.830.4121, coxfarms.com
Pumpkin Village
From giant hill slides, moonbounces, wagon rides and a petting zoo to more entertainment, Pumpkin Village offers many activities for guests. 19246 James Monroe Highway, Leesburg, 703.433.0002, pumpkinfestleesburg.com
