The Fairmont’s refurbished Georgetown Suite now ranks among the city’s best over-the-top rooms.

Mark Huntley had something to get off his chest. He approached me at an event earlier this fall at the Fairmont Washington, DC Georgetown, where he serves as the general manager and regional vice president. “We just finished something I think you’ll like quite a bit,” he grins. “You need to see it. It’s remarkable.” I’ve known Huntley for a few years, and the Brit isn’t prone to hyperbole, so I was curious. His big reveal is the newly refurbished, 2,150-square-foot Georgetown Suite located on the ninth floor (the Fairmont Gold level) at the property nestled on a quiet stretch of M Street in the West End. The suite’s press release notes that it’s fit for kings, queens and presidents seeking luxurious sojourns. All true. But it’s also a two-bedroom winter hideaway for couples looking to rejuvenate or honeymooners celebrating their big day before the rest of their lives begin. Pierre Josselin of New York-based Pierre & Co (pierreandco.com) crafted the sophisticated urban retreat. Gold plays a starring role in the room’s decor, inspired by the golden hour casting its glow on the National Mall. Couches, vases, draperies, sculptures, lamps, marble tables, mirrors and a handcrafted glass cherry blossom chandelier present various gilded hues. Josselin balances and grounds his radiant selections with natural tones for coffee tables and hand-tufted area rugs. Bright white molding and black-stained millwork frame the rooms. The suite’s foyer is a marvel, with a gorgeous black, gray and white marble floor that flows into walnut wall panels. Guests at the property will also love the primary bedroom’s king-size DUX bed clad in pieces from the DUXIANA Essential Collection (think sateen sheets crafted from long-staple cotton). Another bonus is a freestanding soaking tub surrounded by gold glass panels and a separate bath framed with Calacatta Macchia Vecchia slabs. Exclusive amenities abound, including a rainbow of sweets from the property’s pastry team and a cocktail kit for mixing sips upon arrival. The kicker, influenced by Huntley, who’s a big fan of the brand: Guests receive a single-barrel bottle of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey signed by Master Distiller Victoria Eady Butler, and a signed copy of Love & Whiskey by Uncle Nearest founder Fawn Weaver. While the golden hour might be challenging to find amid DC’s winter grays, I know a new suite where the sun-kissed days never end. 2401 M St NW, 202.429.2400, fairmont.com/washington
