Washington, DC-Called the "poet laureate of Washington dance," artistic director and choreographer Dana Tai Soon Burgess, in his newest work, explores the experience of a Korean child uprooted from her birthplace when she is adopted by Caucasian American parents. Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co. (DTSB & Co.) will perform Becoming American - which examines Asian adoption and broader themes of identity, immigration, belonging and cultural acceptance.
The program also includes an encore performance of Burgess's acclaimed Charlie Chan and the Mystery of Love, which debuted in October 2010. The autobiographical Chan offers a window into the Asian-American choreographer's childhood in New Mexico.
