Alex Ovechkin at the new Origin, part of Ballston Quarter
A few months ago, the Capitals played a Friday game in Ottawa, Ontario, returned to DC at 2:30AM and practiced later that morning. And yet Alex Ovechkin showed up for our post-practice photo shoot wearing a Dolce & Gabbana suit looking like a legend. He’s arguably the finest professional athlete this town has ever seen and among the best who have ever shot a puck. He continues, at age 34, to defy the logic of what a human can do on ice. Much like the NBA, hockey players, including Ovechkin, now set the red-carpet standard for style. So, even when “the Great 8” (with 700+ goals) wears his favorite jeans and a T-shirt to grab a pizza with his Russian supermodel wife, Nastya, he’s still very much making the statement. Again, legend.
If I could turn back time, I would tell myself to enjoy every minute.
The best advice I ever got was family first.
The craziest thing I ever did was swim in the Georgetown fountains after the Stanley Cup.
