On 6/10, Commonwealth Proper hosted a watch party for the UEFA Champions League Final soccer match in conjunction with a viewing of The Lucky Pitch Project, an art installation. Lucky Pitch refers to the soccer fields the two artists, Eric Busheé and Josh Anderson, grew up playing on in Washington DC. They would find themselves sitting in the fields covered in clover, tying on their soccer shoes, always keeping an eye out for that lucky four-leaf clover. The nation’s capital has always been a very multi-cultural place, which helped shape Eric and Josh’s inclusivity and openness, to the plethora of those who flocked to the city, from all over the world. There is a juxtaposition of nationalism that comes with the World Cup, while still being a time to admire and support the talents of other nations. The show expresses the cross-cultural admiration of sport and how it brings us together, interweaving our experiences through joy, wonder, disappointment and collaboration.
