Theodore Roosevelt Island
In the 1930s, the island was transformed from neglected, overgrown farmland into a remarkable memorial to America’s 26th president. To visit the memorial plaza—which features the Theodore Roosevelt statue and fountains—the Woods Trail is the way to go. Mount Vernon Trail

White Oak Canyon
Road trip! This amazing trek, with a trailhead off of Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park, is a summer and fall favorite. But winter is a best-kept secret here.
