Urban living is the name of the game in the DMV, as a multitude of new luxury apartment projects are opening from the southwest waterfront to Northern Virginia. It’s a trend toward ease, amenity heaven, walkability, and access to fine restaurants and shops whenever it suits your fancy. And if you nab a penthouse pad at one of these communities, you’ll be sitting and sleeping pretty too.
THE BANKS Southwest DC Those with a penchant for waterfront living should check out PN Hoffman’s new 12-story project in The Wharf neighborhood. Move-in began in February, and two of the four penthouses are already leased. Amenities include a rooftop terrace, club room, fitness center, refrigerated and dry-cleaning lockers, a pet spa and more. Available penthouses from $4,500-$5,750 per month, 900 Seventh St. SW, 202.919.5666, banksdc.com
NOVEL SOUTH CAPITOL Southeast DC This building delivered earlier this year and is the first of two (the next debuts this fall). It’s co-constructed by RCP Development Co. and Crescent Communities with a rooftop pool, cafe and cocktail bar, and co-working spaces. Some of the 42 penthouses have terraces and views of the monuments, whether they are studios or three-bedroom units. The moniker? “Literal luxury.” Penthouses $2,300-$5,700 per month, 2 I St. SE, 833.201.6601, novelsouthcapitol.com
EXO Reston, Va. Talk about eye candy: The community has this 16-story beacon to smart, tech-forward living. Opened last summer, the residential building is the first to be equipped with View Dynamic Glass in each of the 457 units, including the 46 penthouses (15 are still available). The design allows denizens to tint the windows, cutting glare and the need for blinds. Heat is also reduced while natural light shines through. Penthouses $2,560-$4,885 per month, 1897 Oracle Way, 703.215.1280, exoreston.com
